When I bought my house I remember thinking how safe from floods it would be since it was not next to a body of water, or in a flood plain. However, when the rains came down faster than what the ground would absorb it had nowhere else to go but inside my door. It ruined my floors and damaged the bottom of my walls. My washing machine is kept in my finished basement, and I had thought this was a great place for it. But it had a major mechanical failure and I had a flood in my basement. Even with the drains there was so much water leaked that it made flood damage a foot off the ground. Walls were damaged, flooring was damaged, and it was awful.
